It used to be normally thought that a B.Com degree is enough to get a job. But in today’s job market scenario, having a degree from one of the best commerce colleges in India is not enough to land a good position. Most of the time it is not because of the degree or the college but due to other reasons, like:


  1. Skill set: Although there are a lot of job opportunities available for a B.Com graduate, the major stumbling block becomes the position and the salary offered. A mere B.Com degree does not take you into the boardroom unlike in the past. Now organisations demand additional skills that are practical for their specific use. Students at times have no idea of a parallel course to boost their degree and thus miss out on such opportunities.

  3. Procrastination: Most students get admission into commerce due to some adults in their family pushing them into this field. They are usually the ones who have a false impression that a job awaits them after just a simple graduation without the need to learn more. 
  4. Focus only on academic courses: The commerce segment has three basic types of courses, i.e. professional courses like CS, CA, etc. or vocational courses like Banking, Finance, etc. or academic courses like B.Com. Students generally rely on only the academic course and have no inclination to acquire practical skills much required for a job later on. Most of the top BCom colleges in India have a three year course that provides one year of additional courses to boost your career.
